Beach Sunset at Vide Boutielle ~ St. Lucia

Walking along the nearly 2 mile strip of beach from the George F.L. Charles Airport all the way across to Rat Island is such a delightful form of exercise that stimulates both physically as well as mentally. No matter how many times I do this walk I am never bored and no two walks are ever the same.
As if this were not magnificent enough, sunsets along this beach are an added treat and on this day I was able to capture one of nature’s stunning displays. No two sunsets are ever the same and you never know when it’s gonna be a really spectacular one. Though I’ve watched the pattern of when they seem to appear and have a fairly good idea of when a day just might be special. But still for that you just never know.
I had been coming to the beach for a few days in a row and spending an hour or two each time but hadn’t really liked what I was getting. While the images were nice, and many persons would have thought them really Wow, I had seen better so I held out and kept on returning to the same spot trusting that luck would at some point smile down on me.
And smile down she certainly did! This afternoon started out pretty much like the others that had come before but as the sun started fading the clouds kept low in the sky and the sky above took on some deeper hues most likely as there were no clouds up there to scatter the light.
I clicked a few shots and liked what I was getting. Then I waited for the sun to fall lower in the sky as this is when the yellows and oranges are usually at their vibrant best. As I looked from the sky back to the green shrubs where I stood I watched them take on a golden glow as they reflected the colour of the sunlight shining back on them. I hit a few clicks as I experimented with my exposure. Then in less than 5 minutes the sun shifted position and the mesmerizing glow was suddenly gone.
I couldn’t help thinking how powerful patience is and also how important it is to be observant as well as being ready for the sudden opportunities life can sometimes send our way.
