Pigeon Point is one of the most popular beaches on the north of St. Lucia. While a number of hotels occupy the Pigeon Island Causeway there is still plenty of recreation space available. Additionally, the causeway shelters the bay from the rougher waters that bash against the northern face of the causeway.

Then there are all the yachts that dot the bay and the lush green hillsides that serve as a beautiful backdrop right across the bay. Little wonder then that Pigeon Point is so popular with both locals and visitors.

As beautiful as this picture is it actually was a long time in the making. You see, the northern part of St Lucia where Pigeon Point is happens to be one of the driest parts of the island and Pigeon Island in the background remains parched dry and scruffy looking for many months in the year. However once the rains set in around June Pigeon Island gets it’s thirst quenched and the tropical foliage springs up and quickly comes to full bloom.

But because this is now the rainy season there are many days that are simply not ideal for photography and all I can do is wait out such days.

The day before I shot this image I was out on assignment shooting an International House Hunters Villa for the New York Times. It was a really beautiful day and I wanted to showcase how lovely the nearby beach and ocean were. But it was too late in the day for me to get a good shot. I shot a few pictures for good measure and I kept my fingers crossed that the next day would still be good. Well I really lucked out as the following day was even crisper than the day before.

So it took me all of about 5 minutes and just a couple of clicks of my camera for me to nail the shot.

I guess this balances out for the times I’ve had to wait for months to get the perfect shot.
I also lucked out that although I made this picture on a Sunday it was early enough in the morning that folks had not come out for their usual Sunday beach lime. I was also lucky that folks from the hotel were not out and about as yet.

But my biggest delight is being able to share this beautiful Saint Lucia beach scene with you. I hope it brings back fond memories if this is a beach you are familiar with.
